Wyze, a budget-friendly smart home company, has just released a new product called Wyze Cam Pan. This is the second generation, as the name suggests, of Wyze's original product, the Wyze Cam Pan. It was launched three years ago. The new model, which costs $39.99 plus $9.99 shipping, is now available. It adds color night vision, motion-tracking improvements, and a siren.
The Wyze Cam Pan 2 camera has the same form factor as its predecessor. The indoor wired camera features 1080p HD video, two-way communication and a wired connection. Its main feature is its ability to rotate on the base and capture a 360 degree view of your home from the side and a 93 degree view vertically. This allows you to spot Spiderman as he crawls through the skylight. The Pan Scan feature allows you to set up four custom waypoints for the camera to continuously scan, so it's like having four cameras.
The star feature is the addition of color night vision powered via a Starlight Sensor. This feature was first introduced in the Wyze Cam v3 outdoor/indoor camera. This allows you to view the full 1080p HD video footage that the camera captures at night in color instead of the traditional black and white.
Instead of relying on the built-in spotlight to color night vision, the sensor uses any available light to make the scene brighter. Wyze claims it can see in dark rooms up to 0.1 LUX, which is very dark. It can automatically switch to night vision in standard black or white if there isn't enough light.
Wyze claims that the new model has a faster processor than its predecessor. This allows Wyze's motion tracking feature to follow real-time movements more efficiently. This can be toggled on and off in Settings. When on, the app will automatically track any moving objects, such as pets or people. This makes the Wyze Cam Pan an excellent pet monitor. The new model's faster processor will likely make it even more useful.
You can use the two-way chat feature to keep in touch with Felix or Fido while you're at work, or to yell at an unauthorized person. You can also activate the siren feature in Wyze.
Infrared light is the final feature. Anyone who has ever used a security camera to monitor a baby will understand why. The camera's face remains black in dark rooms and will not disturb any babies sleeping.
Wyzes cams also include local storage via microSD card (not included), which allows 24/7 recording, free rolling cloud storage for event-based videos for 14 days, up to 12 sec per clip, and the ability listen to smoke and CO alarms. Cam Plus subscribers start at $1.25 per month and include longer clips and smart alerts to people, pets and vehicles. You also get one-month free. The Cam Plus subscription is a great deal for such small specs and features. It starts at $1.25 per month, but it's not as cheap as the $30 v1.
This is what Wyze is known for, rock bottom prices for close-to-top-of-the-line specs. These features don't always come true. Sometimes, the promised features don't always materialize. Wyze says that Alexa and Google Assistant integration will be available soon. We will be updating you once the camera has been tested.
If this is the camera that you've been looking forward to, it might be time to get it now. Wyze Pan Cam V2 is now shipping. Wyze has been having a lot of difficulty keeping stock in stock.
