Adam Masina missed one of many Watford opportunities

Late goals by Sam Clucas, Josh Tymon and Stoke City gave Championship side Stoke City victory over wasteful Watford in Carabao Cup's third round.

Clucas scored from 25 yards, before Tymon's cross was mis-hit and looped over Rob Elliot.

Watford made 11 changes but fell behind in the second half after Nick Powell gave Alfie Doughty his cross.

Ashley Fletcher made a point, but it was not enough to redeem 26 goals on goal for Xisco Muniz's team.

Stoke only had three players to start from Saturday's Derby league loss. Adam Davies, their goalkeeper, was responsible for keeping Watford away before two pieces of luck put them through.

Clucas' attempt took a deflection from the boot of Moussa sisoko and flew into a bottom corner. Tymon sinned a first time cross over Elliot’s head.

Watford were not kind to themselves, as Adam Masina wasted a golden opportunity before the break. He blasted the crossbar just a few yards away with only the goalkeeper to stop.

Cucho Hernandez was also at the front of the line when it was 1-1. Fletcher's weak response was bundled behind.
