Premier League Everton was defeated by Championship side QPR on penalties in order to reach the Carabao Cup's last 16.

Within 90 minutes, the Toffees came from behind twice with Lucas Digne & Andros Townsend cancelling two Charlie Austin headers.

Both sides scored their first seven spot-kicks, and the shootout ended in sudden death.

Seny Dieng, QPR's goalkeeper, pushed a Tom Davies attempt onto the post before Jimmy Dunne won the match for the hosts.

The drama started just before that, as Dieng had saved Ben Godfrey from a penalty. But the referee ordered another take for encroachment.

Godfrey made amends by scoring at the second attempt. However, Davies saw his penalty (and Everton's eight) saved by Davies before QPR centre-back Dunne crashed in the effort.

QPR has reached the fourth round for the first time since 2008.

Rafael Benitez's team has now lost two of their last four Premier League matches.
