iOS 15.1 Beta Lets Users Add COVID Vaccination Card to Wallet App

iOS 15.1 beta was released today. It allows iPhone users upload their COVID-19 vaccination status through the Health app, and then create a vaccination card in Apple Wallet.

Apple Wallet vaccination cards can be presented to restaurants, businesses, and other establishments that require vaccines.

Verifiable health records will be based on the SMART Health Cards specification, as announced in a developer announcement. California uses SMART Health cards. Users in California can now add their vaccination records into the Wallet app once they have installed iOS 15.1.

Other states or health organizations using the SMART Health Card will also be able use a button to inform users that they can download their vaccination information and keep it in the Wallet app. While some apps, such as the one used by NHS UK, allowed users to add their vaccine records to the Wallet App, the new solution is a universal standard and will be available to all healthcare providers/states who implement it.
