Tom Ford's Husband, Richard Buckley, Dead at 72

Richard Buckley, Tom Ford's longtime fashion journalist husband, has passed away.
Richard, Tom, and Jack were by his side when he died Sunday night in L.A. Tom's representatives said that Richard died naturally from natural causes following a long battle with cancer. The nature of the illness was not revealed.

Richard and Tom were together for 35+ years. Richard met Tom in 1986 while riding an elevator to a fashion show. Tom said that it was love at the first sight. After the legalization of the same-sex marriage, they were married in 2014.

Although it was nearly three decades later that they said "I do", Tom says he knew from the moment he first saw Richard that this would be something special. He once stated, "Our eyes locked, and within a month, we were living together."

Tom and Richard were blessed with Jack via surrogacy in 2012. Richard was a huge figure in the fashion industry. In 1979, Richard began his career as a fashion journalist at New York Magazine. Later, he would work at Women's Wear Daily (now Vanity Fair) and Women's Wear Daily.

Richard, a Binghamton native and the son of a military family who traveled around the globe, would later move to Milan. He became the European editor for Mirabella in 1990. He was also a contributing editor to Italian Vogue, while Tom was on Gucci's design staff.

Richard and Tom moved to Paris later so Richard could become editor-in-chief of Vogue Hommes International. From 1999 to 2005, he held the position of editor-in-chief at Vogue Hommes International.

He was 72.
