On Dec. 1, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a case that could overturn decades-old abortion protections under Roe v. Wade.

Dobbs, v. Jackson Women's Health Organization takes aim at the Supreme Court precedent that states cannot ban abortions before a fetus becomes viable or is capable of living outside of the womb.

The law bans abortions after 15 weeks in Mississippi, which is significantly earlier than the general standard for fetal viability of 22 weeks. The 5th U.S. blocked the law. Circuit Court of Appeals

The high court will hear the case. It grew more conservative under Republican President Donald Trump who appointed three justices for the nine-seat bench.

All three Trump appointees, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, and Neil Gorsuch voted against an attempt to block a Texas law that restricts abortion from taking effect.

Most abortions in Texas are prohibited after six weeks. The majority of 5-4 voted against the law, citing procedural reasons.

In mid-May, the Supreme Court accepted to hear arguments about Mississippi's abortion laws after the next term began in October.
