According to law enforcement, the human remains found near Grand Teton National Park correspond to that of Gabby Petito (22-year-old lifestyle blogger) who disappeared on a road trip with Brian Laundrie.
On Sunday afternoon, the FBI made the shocking discovery at a press conference. This ended multi-agency searches that had captured national attention.
FBI agent Charles Jones expressed sincere condolences on behalf of all FBI personnel and partners. This is a difficult time for their family and friends, as every parent can see. They are in our thoughts and prayers.
Jones stated that Jones has not yet determined the cause of death. Jones also stated that authorities have not yet identified the body. He offered condolences for Petitos' family.
To confirm Gabby's 100% identification, full forensic identification is not yet complete. At this point, the cause of Gabby's death is not known. Jones expressed his gratitude for your patience and continued support as we go through this process.
The body of Petito was discovered earlier in the day, near Grand Teton National Park. Fox News first reported the story on Sunday, citing the local coroner. BuzzFeed News was also informed by the Teton County coroner that a body had been found in Bridger-Teton National Forest.
Petito was on the last leg of a cross-country van life road trip with Laundrie, when she disappeared. When Petito returned home to Florida on September 1st without her, her 23-year-old fianc raised suspicions about him being involved in Petito's disappearance.
According to police, Laundrie refused to speak with investigators about Petito's disappearance. Since then, he has vanished and the FBI launched an investigation into his location on Friday.
This is still a developing story. Keep checking back for more updates.
