Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the editor of Power On, shared his hopes for future Apple products in the latest issue.
Gurman expects that new MacBook Pros will be released by 2021. However, he does not anticipate any major product launches until next year. Gurman stated that Apple will unveil several products in 2022. These include new AirPods Pro and a revamped Mac Pro tower using Apple silicon, a new MacBook Air with Apple silicon and three new Apple Watch models.
Gurman and Bloomberg's Debby Wu reported previously that the new AirPods Pro will have new motion sensors for fitness tracking. They also said that Apple has tested a smaller design that removes the stems beneath the earbuds. Gurman and Wu reported that Apple is currently testing a new glass back for wireless charging support. They also said that AirPods can be charged by placing them on the iPad Pro's back.
Gurman suggests that 2022 could be the year Apple unveils its mixed-reality headset, which combines virtual and augmented reality features. Gurman believes that this is also the year Apple will show off its highly rumored headset. Gurman said Apple's "true AR glass" is still two to four years away.
Gurman maintained that Apple is currently working on satellite functionality for future iPhones. This would allow users to send texts and file emergency reports from areas that lack cellular service. However, Gurman noted that these features "just don't yet exist."
Gurman also shared his thoughts about the iPhone 13 and other Apple devices this week. He also reflected on possible App Store changes following the Epic Games verdict. Subscribe to the Power On newsletter.
