Chris Anker Sorensen, a professional cyclist, has retired in 2018

Chris Anker Sorensen, a former professional Danish cyclist, has been killed in an accident while riding in Belgium.

Sorensen was scheduled to commentate the Road World Championships which start in Flanders on Sunday.

Sorensen, a 2010 Giro d'Italia stage winner, retired from professional cycling in 2018.

His death was described by the UCI as a "tragic Loss".

The global governing body released the following statement: "Our thoughts are with him family, friends, and everyone at Danish Cycling Federation."
