According to an analysis of Jaguars (Panthera Onca) and their protected zones, fires and logging pose a significant threat to South America's largest cat.

Brazilian researchers discovered that the last strongholds of apex predators in the rainforest are also those with the highest human pressures. This includes fires set to clear land for cattle ranches.

The research was conducted by a team headed by Juliano Bogoni from the University of Sao Paolo, Brazil.
