These three stunning images, which showcase the beauty and simplicity of space, were awarded top prizes by the Royal Observatory of Greenwich, London.
Shuchang Dong won the overall competition for his photo, The Golden Ring. It was taken during an annular sun eclipse in June 2020. Dong captured this fleeting shot in Ali, Tibet as the sun, Moon, and Earth aligned. Annular eclipses are when the moon passes in front of the sun but appears smaller than our star. This results in a bright ring light.
