Skipper Tom Abell founded Somerset's rescue plan at Edgbaston using 50 balls off

Somerset won by two wickets at Edgbaston, defeating Hampshire in the final of T20 cricket.

The 2005 winners seemed set for defeat as they chased Hampshire's 150. However, they fell to 79-6 in 14 over.

Amazingly, however, skipper Tom Abell (50), Ben Green (335 off 18 balls), Craig Overton (35 off 18 ball), and Josh Davey turned it around.

They returned home on 153-8, with two balls left to make it to their fifth final. This was their first since they lost to Leicestershire in Cardiff in 2011.

Abell's men will now face the winners of the afternoon’s second semi-final between Kent and Sussex in this first all-southern Finals Day.

After a slow start by the Hawks, Joe Weatherley appeared to be the Hampshire match-winner. He scored 71 runs from 50 balls.

After four overs, they fell to 26-3 - it could have been worse had Weatherley gone earlier when he was caught by Davey on his leg side.

He was called back by Somerset after a recount of the fielders in the fielding circle. Weatherley then slapped six free hits over Davey's head.

Weatherley's career best T20 knock was not enough. Somerset's amazing rescue act, after Abell was out in 17th over, with 44 still required, was almost unbelievable.

Green won the match by hitting Brad Wheal, then Chris Wood, for three sixes. Only seven balls remained.

Somerset required 10 runs from the final over. Wheal had previously finished with 4-34. Davey, however, was already on 4-34. He drilled the third ball to long-on for a boundary and then flicked off his toes to score four runs.
