Although it is not a sequel to the dire ct, there are six Paranormal Activity episodes. Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin has folk horror vibes and a terribly unfriendly-looking hole in the ground. It also features the Paramount+ exclusive streaming release that arrives right before Halloween.
The original 2007 film reminded Hollywood, much like The Blair Witch Project, that found-footage horror movies can be terrifying audiences and bring in large profits with small budgets. It's no surprise then that there was so much talk in 2015 about how Paranormal Activity would put its camcorder away and not raze this horror franchise (as Jason Blum stated at the time) after The Ghost Dimension. Paranormal Activity is a very lucrative series so you could assume that it would return eventually. Blum, however, retracted his earlier comments about the new film in July and said that he encouraged everyone involved to come up with something new. It was important to do it right if you want to re-do the film.

Here's the trailer. Next of Kin seems to be adding a cult component. At first glance, it appears that the story is set in the past. But, unless there's a time-travel element, the story must take place at a time when portable cameras can be easily accessed. The protagonist, Emily Bader, appears right away, and it seems like she is a contemporary character who visits her relatives. Their ways may look like they have traveled down a Wicker Man/Midsommar/human sacrifice/ don't feed us after dark kind of path.
Next of Kin stars Dan Lippert and Roland Buck III. It is directed by William Eubank (The Signal and Underwater), and written by Christopher Landon of Paranormal Activity, who co-wrote and directed Freaky, a recent body-swap movie about serial killers.
Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin premieres exclusively at Paramount+ October 29. Are you adding it to your Halloween movie list?
