West Ham finished sixth in the Premier League last year thanks to Jesse Lingard's performance
David Moyes, West Ham manager, says that Jesse Lingard was never resigned by West Ham during the summer.
Lingard, 28 years old, scored nine goals in 16 matches last season during a successful loan spell with the Hammers.
Rumours suggested that the club was looking for a permanent deal. However, Moyes claims that Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not intend to sell the winger.
Moyes stated that Ole made it clear to him early in the transfer window that they wanted to keep him.
"So, I knew very early that he would stay at Manchester United.
"I was hearing all of the stuff, but I had a private discussion with Ole, who made it clear that he was staying."
Solskjaer stated that he would like to keep Lingard past the expiration of his current contract.
The academy graduate turned down a new deal after concerns about his ability to play as often as he does.
Lingard's chances of playing for England international are likely to be limited by the return of Cristiano Ronaldo. However, Moyes wouldn't be drawn on whether he might be tempted to play for England international.
"I cannot talk about players at other club because that's how we do it," said the Scot, whose West Ham side plays Manchester United at London Stadium this Sunday.
Jesse was a part of our club for quite a while so I feel I can only say that he made a huge contribution to the team on and off the pitch. He was a great addition to our team.
"I hope that Jesse will remember that time and the way that the players treated him. I think Jesse will also remember that. It could change.
"He was great for our company. However, the manager said he would keep him. When that happens, I believe that manager. That's how it ended.
