Companies Are Ditching Drug Tests Because They’re Blocking Good Candidates

Amazon is one of the largest employers.
Simply say no

In an effort to attract workers, more companies are eliminating drug screening policies.

ManpowerGroup, a staffing company, has conducted a new survey to find that nearly nine percent of employers have eliminated drug testing from the application process. This is in response to a global labor shortage caused by the COVID pandemic.

The global talent crisis is not slowing down, with 69 per cent of employers reporting difficulty filling positions. Later, the survey stated that the employment outlook was optimistic for employers who are willing to adapt to new work environments and offer incentives to retain and attract the talent they need.

Attracting applicants

Employers are struggling to fill vacant positions so it makes sense that outdated practices such as drug screenings should be eliminated. They are only a barrier to qualified candidates who may be able to safely use recreational drugs from time to time.

Amazon is perhaps the largest company to have removed its drug screening policy. Amazon, an e-commerce and web services company, announced in June that it would no longer screen for marijuana during applications for jobs not regulated under the US Department of Transportation.

It is only natural that employers will stop testing for marijuana with more states legalizing it and politicians reversing old policies that resulted in the mass imprisonment of nonviolent drug offenders.
