Victor Osimhen missed many chances in the first period before scoring two goals shortly after the break
Brendan Rodgers stated that his "young team" will learn from their defeat to Napoli by giving away a two goal lead in their Europa League opener at King Power Stadium.
After Harvey Barnes and Ayoze Perez had given Leicester a lead of 2-0, Victor Osimhen from Napoli scored twice in the second period.
Osimhen's brilliant touch past Kasper Schmeichel made the deficit smaller, before he scored a header in the final minute.
"The crime is not giving away the goals; the crime is if it doesn't teach you from it." Rodgers said, "I'm certain that this young team will do that."
Perez opened the scoring by scoring from Barnes' cross, before Perez scored Leicester's second goal shortly after Patson Daka's goal was ruled out as offside.
Osimhen was set to win Group C's pole position, but Osimhen struck a late blow and Leicester's Wilfred Nididi was sent away for a second booking.
The group is left open, with Leicester still traveling to Italy and Legia Warsaw facing Spartak Moscow.
Rodgers said that although he was disappointed by the final result, there were many exciting and positive moments. "The goals were outstanding, and the one that was not allowed was close.
"Maybe we were tired. We can improve our ball control, which will allow us to keep the ball in play for longer periods of time. We wouldn't tire as quickly if we did this.
"The effort was great and the mentality was excellent. It's a shame that we couldn’t close it.
In an enthralling fight, Leicester fought back
Brendan Rodgers made five changes to Leicester's starting line-up, including Ayoze Perez
The King Power was abuzz with excitement to welcome European football back in Leicester. The match, widely predicted to be a clash between two of the favourites to win it, did not disappoint.
After only three minutes, Napoli had their first shot on target. Leicester followed suit when Barnes was denied at close range. Perez then set up Perez's goal with a perfectly-weighted cross.
Timothy Castagne and Kasper Schmeichel, goalkeeper, managed to keep Napoli's Piotr Zweckinski out, although Lorenzo Insigne, Hirving Lozano were close.
It had been a wasteful effort by the Italians, and when Barnes coolly beat in Leicester's second, it looked like they were on their way to winning.
Osimhen was able to make a stunning one-touch pass and dance into the box, before flicking the ball over Schmeichel and past Jannik Vestergaard.
The forward Napoli hung in the air and nodded in a second.
Tensions flared at the end of the last whistle, when police and stewards intervened to stop missiles being thrown by both supporters.
