High-res carbon emission maps reveal climate impact of commuting

Zhu Liu has created a map showing Europe's 2020 carbon emissions.
High-resolution maps showing carbon emissions show how our daily patterns of behaviour (e.g., commuting) affect the release of greenhouse gasses. This could be used to help governments see the effects of green policies.

Zhu Liu, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China and his colleagues combined data to create daily global maps of carbon emissions at a resolution of 10 km.

Researchers used country-level emission inventories, data collected from power plants and industrial sites, as well as satellite measurements of nitrogen dioxide, and modeling estimates.
