According to the Galveston County Health District, a young girl from Bacliff, Texas, succumbed to COVID-19 last week. This is an extremely rare instance.
Kali Cook, a four-year-old girl, died Tuesday, just hours after showing signs. Karra Harwood was the girl's mom and told The Daily News that Kali Cook had died shortly after her symptoms began. Harwood stated that she had tested positive for COVID-19 Monday and attempted to isolate herself from her children.
Kali developed a fever at 2 a.m. and she was given medicine to combat it. Kali died in her sleep at 7 a.m.
Kali was not vaccinated because Coronavirus vaccines have been banned for children younger than 12. Her mother said that she had also been infected with COVID-19 and she regrets not being vaccinated.
She said, "I was one among the people that was anti. I was against it." "Now, I wish that I never was."
Harwood said to the outlet that Kali, her daughter, was "so funny" and "sassy" and would rather play with worms or frogs than wear bows.
Galveston County Health District stated that Kali's COVID-19 death was the youngest recorded in the area. It said that she was not believed to have contracted COVID-19 while at school.
As the more transmittable Delta variant causes cases in the US to rise, more children are being tested positive for COVID-19. But, it is rare for young children to experience severe illness or even death.
A September 2 American Academy of Pediatrics report found that children accounted for 0.00% to0.27% of all COVID-19-related deaths in the states reported. However, 0.00% to0.03% of all child cases resulting in COVID-19 led to death.
There have been occasional reports of child deaths, such as a Georgia boy aged five who died in July, and an Orange County child who died this week, both under 5.
