Russian second seed Daniil Medvedev won the US Open men's final beating Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime in New York.

Medvedev rallied from a set down in the second set to win 6-4 7-5, 6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium

For the title, he will be facing Novak Djokovic, Serbia's world number one, or Alexander Zverev (German fourth seed)

Djokovic will face Zverev on Friday, as he continues his quest for a remarkable calendar Grand Slam.

Medvedev will be competing in his third Grand Slam final. He has already lost the Flushing Meadows final to Rafael Nadal in 2019 and the Australian Open final against Djokovic.

The 25-year old, who has already won titles on Toronto's hard courts this year, conceded his first set during his four-set victory over Botic van der Zandschulp, a Dutch qualifier. This was after a relatively trouble-free run to the final.

Medvedev broke off in horror from Auger-Aliassime's seventh game. He chose his moment to apply pressure on his opponent, 21 years old, and put him on the backfoot.

The Russian was unable to win the second set. Auger-Aliassime, who was contesting his first Grand Slam semifinal, won a second break point opportunity and held serve to lead 5-2.

The set, and the chance for Canada to level the match, was lost.

Auger-Aliassime failed to convert twice at set point. Medvedev punished him and he regrouped and played four games in succession to end his opponent's momentum abruptly and take a 2-set lead.

After a third-set opening hold, the 12th seed lost the challenge. The world number two won another double break and cruised into a 5-1 lead. He then claimed another win on serve.
