Jack Leach, who is not a part of the series, will leave Emirates Old Trafford Friday

According to Tom Harrison, chief of England and Wales Cricket Board, the England-India Test may be postponed until 2022.

After Covid-19 cases involving the India backroom team, the Emirates Old Trafford game was canceled before play began on Friday.

Harrison stated that "refunds will be issued to ticket holders shortly." External-link

"Although it will not be a consolation for many, we will attempt to reschedule the long-awaited test next summer."

He had earlier claimed that the postponement of the match was not due to the rescheduled Indian Premier League. It resumes on September 19.

Harrison stated, "This isn't a situation that has been created by rescheduled IPL."

"I fundamentally don't believe that for a second."

According to him, Indian cricket chiefs offered to reschedule it but it was not clear if that would be part the Test series they are leading 2-1 or as a standalone fixture.

"I don’t know yet. Fans and players will both be eager to find out. He said that there are sensitive issues on both sides, but the answer must be right.

Ravi Shastri, India's head coach, was found to be positive for Covid-19 in the fourth Test. Three other staff members were forced into isolation.

On Thursday, another member of the support team tested positive. The fifth Test was called off just two hours before the 11:00 BST start.

Due to a rise in coronavirus cases, the IPL was delayed in May. It will now resume in the United Arab Emirates.

In May, the Board of Control for Cricket in India requested an external-link from the ECB to alter the schedule of the England series in order to facilitate arrangements for the IPL.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan stated that it was all about the IPL cash in BBC Test Match Special.

"Players will be terrified of contracting the virus and missing IPL games,"

Harrison stated that Harrison was wrong to link the end of the last Test and the resumption IPL.

Harrison stated that Harrison was wrong. "The Indian cricket team is as passionate about Test cricket and cricket as the fans of our country."

"India felt they reached a point in their lives where they were unable to go out into the field. This is understandable.

"As administrators we must be clear that mental well-being has to be a priority when considering the length of tours and conditions in which people had to perform."

India was 2-1 ahead in this series. The outcome is still unknown.

England lost a 2-Test series 1-0 against New Zealand in June. Since 2007, they haven't lost a home series to India.

Harrison said, "There is real sadness because we wanted to get a chance at this Indian team."

"Players put a lot of effort into mentally and physically preparing themselves for the game, and they were successful.

"It will take them a while to get over that emotional downfall."
