The NFL announced Friday that La'el Collins, Dallas Cowboys right tackle, was suspended for five games after violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Collins' lawyers appeal to the policy, arguing that it allows for a fine, but not a suspension, for players who have only failed to show up for drug testing. A source told ESPN's Ed Werder.
Collins, 28 years old, missed last season due to a hip injury. Collins, 28, had played in 47 of 48 games between 2017 and 2019, and was coming off his best season prior to the injury.
Collins was signed by the Cowboys to a five year extension worth $50 million in 2019, which included $35 million guaranteed.
