FLORHAM PARK (N.J.) -- New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson will make Sunday's NFL debut without any of his top receivers.
Jamison Crowder (slot receiver) was positive for COVID-19 last week and was therefore ruled out of Friday's season opener against Carolina Panthers. He is still on the COVID-19 reserve list.
According to Robert Saleh, the Jets' increased depth at wide receiver will be tested. Keelan Cole, who sustained a knee injury on Thursday, will be a game time decision.
The Jets now have five healthy receivers, which includes starters Corey Davis (and rookie Elijah Moore). Crowder could be replaced by Braxton Berrios in the slot. Jeff Smith and Denzel Mims are also available for expanded roles.
Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick, is not in a good spot. Wilson, the No. 2 pick, isn't in a good spot, but Davis was there, and he quickly developed a rapport with him during the preseason.
"I know that I'm No. Davis, who was released by the Tennessee Titans as free agency, stated that he knew he was a No. 1 receiver in the league. "It's amazing that the Jets saw that in free agency.
The Jets might have to rely on Mims, a 2020 second round pick who fell down the depth charts and worked mostly with the backups during the preseason.
Saleh stated that Saleh is still learning, and has been working out in a telephone booth. Saleh also mentioned the finer points of route running. He continues to improve every day."
Crowder, who was the team's top receiver in 2019/2020, was added last Friday to the COVID-19-list. Although he was initially eligible for the opener, he had to undergo two negative tests within 24 hours of being asymptomatic for 48hrs.
Mekhi Becton, the left tackle, has returned to practice after a nearly two-week absence due to a concussion. After an incontinental training camp, the 2020 first-round pick was cleared to play after he practiced throughout the week.
