Revamped Apple Maps Rolls Out Across Italy

Apple started testing the revamped Maps experience in Italy in July after rollouts in the United States and Canada. According to MacStories, Apple has officially launched the Maps improvements in Italy and San Marino as well as Vatican City and Andorra.

This update adds a number of previously unobtainable Maps features to the regions. These include Look Around, lane guidance and speed camera data. 3D buildings, Siri Natural Language Guided Guidance, and improved navigation. This update adds faster and more accurate navigation, as well as more detailed road coverage.

Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of services, provided the following statement to MacStories about the rollout:

Apple Maps is the best way for you to navigate and explore the world. We're thrilled to make this even better with today's rollout. The map has been rebuilt from the ground up with improved navigation, richer detail for places, and amazing features that only Apple can offer, such as Siri Natural Language Guidance and Look Around. It's easier than ever to find the places you love in Italy and get there faster and easier.

Apple Maps was given a major overhaul with iOS 15. There are new details in cities and interactive globes, as well as enhanced driving directions and a few other small features.

The new Maps features include 3D road levels for complex interchanges, step by step augmented reality directions when you walk, a redesigned transit experience with new place cards that contain updated information about businesses, enhanced search functionality and a dedicated Maps user profile to report issues, select favorites and choose a preferred mode.

Apple announced at WWDC 2021 that it would expand its Maps experience to all users in Australia and Italy later this year.

Apple announced in early 2020 that it would start rolling out the updated Maps experience throughout Europe within the next months. Other countries will soon follow suit. New maps offer more detailed views of roads and buildings, as well as shopping malls and airports.
