Some years ago, images went viral showing Guillermo del Toro as actor Ryan Gosling at Disneyland Resort in California. Rumours claimed that the two were working together on a movie based on del Toro's favorite ride, The Haunted Mansion. But, the idea was dropped. You had to wonder: If Ryan Gosling and Guillermo del Toro couldn't make a new Haunted House movie, who could?

It seems that the answer is here. Deadline reports that, following the announcement of Loki's star Owen Wilson joining the film as a director, Ahsoka Tano herself Rosario Dawson will join Disney's Haunted Mansion movie, alongside previously announced cast members Tiffany Haddish and LaKeith Stanfield (Atlanta). From a script written by Katie Dippold (The Heat), Justin Simien will direct Dear White People.
It is not known who these actors are, or what angle Simien and Dippold will take with the Disney classic attraction. Filming is expected to begin in October, which we believe will be an appropriately scary month for the film.
The Haunted Mansion opened in California in 1969 and then expanded across the globe. It was Walt Disney's greatest vision, but he never got the chance to see it. The Doom Buggy takes guests on a slow ride through the mansion, which is filled with goblins and ghosts. There are stories to accompany them. Eddie Murphy was the star of a 2003 film adaptation of this ride. However, most people forget that. This Haunted Mansion version will be a little more adventurous and expansive than the one that was based on a Disney theme park ride, Jungle Cruise.
It doesn't matter what happens, but one gets the feeling that actors such as Haddish, Wilson, Stanfield and Stanfield wouldn't be willing to sign on for a movie with this cultural recognition without feeling confident. We are more excited by the potential of this movie because of the fact that it is happening.
