Christen Press, forward for the United States women's team, has announced that she will take a break from soccer. She cited a desire to concentrate on her mental health and spiritual growth as well as grieving.

Press, who was released by Manchester United in June, and later signed for Angel City FC, were not selected for the USWNT's squad to play against Paraguay in two games later in the month. The first game will be live on ESPN2 at 7.30 pm on Sept. 16.

Press posted on Instagram, "I've been playing professionally for 10 years." Press said on Instagram that he was proud to have been available for almost every professional match, for both country and club. Yet, this has been done with an intensity and focus that leaves little room for other things.

"I have made the difficult decision not to play the game in order to concentrate on my mental health, spiritual growth and grieving processing. It will be a sad loss to see all our amazing fans and the upcoming games. I am confident that I will be back stronger than ever. Thank you for your support throughout my journey.

Press, 32, was a USWNT debutant in 2013. She has won the FIFA Women's World Cup twice, in 2015 and 2019. She has been a part of the team in 155 games and scored 64 goals.
