Pele (pictured in 2019) is Brazil's top goalscorer. He is also one of four players who have scored in four World Cup tournaments.

Brazil legend Pele claims he is "recovering very well" after a surgery to remove a tumor from his colon.

After a cancerous growth in his right colon was detected in tests, the 80-year old was admitted to hospital.

On Monday, he posted on social media external link confirming that he had undergone surgery to remove the "suspicious lesions".

The three-time World Cup winner stated before his surgery that he would face the match with a smile on his face, optimism, and joy for living.

Pele posted on social media to state he was "recovering well" from the surgery. He also dedicated his post to Roberto Carlos, a good friend and singer who lost his 52 year-old son to cancer.

Pele, Brazil's most successful goal scorer, is one of four players who have played in four World Cup tournaments.
