Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez stated that not only women have periods, but trans and nonbinary men do too. This was in response to a comment she made earlier about "menstruating people".
Ocasio Cortez tweeted "Trans men and non-binary persons can also menstruate," along with a screenshot from a Daily Mail headline saying: "AOC calls females'menstruating persons' while explaining the female anatomy."

"Some women don't menstruate because they have survived cancer or need a hysterectomy. The GOP is protecting patriarchal ideas that women are more valuable than uterus holders," continued the New York Democrat.
It's not just for women! It's possible for trans men and non-binary women to menstruate.
Women may also not menstruate due to a variety of reasons, such as surviving cancer or needing a hysterectomy.

Ocasio Cortez spoke of "menstruating women" in a CNN interview about a Texas law that prohibits abortion after a fetal beat is detected.
"I don’t know if the man is familiar with a woman who has had a period. She said that she knew that he was not familiar with a woman, a female or a menstruating person's bodies. Greg Abbott. "He speaks from such deep ignorance. It's not only ignorance. It is ignorance that hurts people."
OcasioCortez strongly condemned the Texas law banning abortions after six weeks without rape or incest exceptions. Last week, the Supreme Court did not block the legislation.

She said, "I'm sorry that we have to interrupt Biology 101 on national TV, but in case he hasn't been informed before in his life, six-weeks pregnant means two weeks late.
