Kimi Raikkonen: Alfa Romeo driver to miss Italian Grand Prix following positive Covid test

Kimi Raikkonen, the Formula 1 driver, announced last week that his retirement will be at the end the season.

Kimi Raikkonen, Alfa Romeo driver, will not be able to compete in the Italian Grand Prix this weekend due to his positive Covid-19 test.

The 41-year-old Finn had to miss the Dutch Grand Prix last weekend and is not allowed to return.

Robert Kubica (reserve driver), who replaced Raikkonen at Zandvoort on Saturday morning, will again be in charge at the historic Monza circuit.

Raikkonen was not found to have any symptoms according to the team.

Kubica will be the first to experience F1's new "sprint qualifying" format. This format was first tried at the British Grand Prix in July.

This means that qualifying will be moved to Friday afternoon and the grid will be set for Saturday's one-third distance race. The grid for the grand prix will then be created.

Kubica stated: "First, let me send my best wishes to Kimi: I wish him a complete recovery and a quick return to the cockpit.

"I look forward to racing at Monza, an amazing track where I won my first podium in 2006. It is a track that I am familiar with, and it will help me, especially since we will only have one practice session, unlike Zandvoort.

"I'm happy with the Holland experience and can't wait for Monza to be a part of the team again."
