Emma Raducanu, a British teenager, reached the semi-finals of the US Open with a dominating straight-set victory over Belinda Bencic, the 11th seed from Switzerland.

Raducanu, 18 years old, showed her class and composure again in a 6-36-4 victory.

Victory will see her rise to the top of the world's 50 most influential women and be crowned the number one British woman's athlete.

Raducanu will face Karolina Pliskova, Czech fourth seed, or Maria Sakkari (17th seed) in Thursday's semifinals.

The final four matches in the women’s singles will take place at 19:00 in New York (00:00 BST Friday).

Raducanu, the world number 150, is the second Grand Slam winner and the third woman to be ranked below the top 100 in the US Open semi-finals.

Raducanu has not dropped a set after she won three of her qualifying matches to make it to the main draw.

Flushing Meadows is her first qualification.

Raducanu won her first match point and embraced the winner.

As she pointed to her team, the Briton smiled beamingly and reflected on what she had just accomplished at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

She said, "I'm so happy to have succeeded."

"Belinda, she is such an opponent and in good form. Her ball speed caught my attention so I had to adapt and adapt.

"I'm only taking care of the things I can control, and I'm on my journey."

Raducanu continues to live the New York fairytale.

Raducanu was a name that few people outside of British tennis knew three months ago. She was then ranked 361 worldwide.

Raducanu's life was changed by her stunning run to Wimbledon last 16, after she was awarded a wildcard in her Grand Slam debut. Her star has continued to rise with another string of performances in New York that have been a revelation.

Raducanu was confident and able to cruise through the quarter-finals. Now, he had to play Bencic in the final eight.

Questions were also asked about her ability to deal with an opponent with a higher pedigree than hers, as well as the weight of the occasion.

Raducanu handled the victory in the same way as the other Flushing Meadows victories: with composed execution and clarity of thought, but also with a sense that she was having fun.

Raducanu faced Bencic for the first-time. It was also the world number 12, who won the Olympic gold in Tokyo last month, and continued riding the wave in New York.

Raducanu won another amazing victory, despite a nervy start, where she was trailing 2-0.

Reaction: "It's amazing what she's doing"

Miles Maclagan, a former British Davis Cup player, on BBC Radio 5 Live: It's amazing the way she has done this. She's done it! She knows exactly where she belongs in the game, and that's no surprise. At this age, it's a skill to maintain a calm head and keep perspective.

"Raducanu needs to keep the rhythm going and not think so much. It seems she has mastered this already.

She is still not great, as she has a lot to do and achieve. But, she is playing amazing tennis.

Raducanu denies the odds that there are so many very talented players who haven’t won a Grand Slam, but she is denying them all.

BBC Radio 5 Live, Naomi Broady, British tennis player: "It wasn't relief at the end to cross the line. It is amazing. Because she knows it is a team effort, she is there to thank her team.

"Everyone may say that we should calm down, but she is on a run right now and I believe we can still live in the moment."

Gigi Salmon is a Radio 5 Live tennis commentator. She said that Bencic has been dismantled like she had with all her predecessors. She is now the world number 51. She is also the British number 1. She is also a Grand Slam semi finalist. It's amazing what she is accomplishing."

We will keep you posted.
