Sources tell ESPN's Jeff Passan that the Tampa Bay Rays will promote Josh Lowe, a top outfield prospect, to the majors.
Lowe, 23 years old, was Tampa Bay's first round draft selection in 2016. He was also rated the No. 1 prospect in Major League Baseball. ESPN's Kiley MacDaniel rated Lowe as the 60th overall prospect earlier in the year.
Lowe, 6'4", is having an exceptional season at Triple A Durham. He bats.282 with 21 homers, 73 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases in just 98 games.
Lowe played in all three positions of the outfield for Durham this season, but it is not clear where he will be playing for the Rays' first-place team. The Rays have a deep and talented outfield that already includes Randy Arozarena (Aust Meadows), Manuel Margot, Brett Phillips, Jordan Luplow, Manuel Margot, Brett Phillips, Brett Phillips, Brett Phillips, and Manuel Margot.
