Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Harris English, Daniel Berger, Scottie Scheffler added to U.S. Ryder Cup team

Tony Finau is thrilled to have been selected for the Ryder Cup team. (1:01).
Steve Stricker, the captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup, added Tony Finau and Xander Schauffele to his 12-man team Wednesday, along with Jordan Spieth, Harris English (Harris English), Daniel Berger, Scottie Scheffler, and Jordan Spieth.

Stricker made the announcement at Whistling Strits Golf Club, Haven, Wisconsin. The site will host the 43rd Ryder Cup on Sept. 24,

Webb Simpson and Patrick Reed, former players of the U.S. Ryder Cup, were not selected to the team.

Six players from the U.S. team automatically qualified via a points system that began in 2019.

The next four players in this points race were English, Finau, Schauffele and Spieth.

Six Ryder Cup rookies will be on the U.S. team: English, English, Berger Scheffler Cantlay, Scheffler and Scheffler.

Stricker and PGA of America modified the process after the Ryder Cup was delayed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. They decided to have six automatic qualifiers instead of six picks.

At the end of this week's BMW PGA Championship in London, nine automatic qualifiers will be available for the European Team, which is led by Padraig Harrington from Ireland. After the final round, Harrington will make his three at large selections.
