HBO Max is set to launch in Europe in October

HBO Max will begin its European adventure in less than a month. It is ready to compete with Amazon Prime and Netflix.
Variety reports that the streaming service will launch in six European countries on October 26th. Spain, Norway, Sweden and Andorra will be the first countries to receive HBO Max.

In 2022, 14 additional countries will be added to the list: Bulgaria, Portugal, Poland and Slovenia. Variety reported that HBO Max is not currently planned to launch in the UK and Germany. However, Sky or Now TV are the best options for HBO content due to licensing agreements with WarnerMedia.

Although prices have not been revealed yet, they will reportedly be announced in October. However, we think they may include the newly added, cheaper, ad-supported subscription.

Variety reports that HBO Max's European TV show and movie selection will likely be from HBO's mainstays: Warner Bros., HBO and Max Originals. Adult Swim and Turner Classics are also included in the strategy. The publisher stated that theatrical releases will not be included in the Europe strategy, unlike those seen in the U.S.

Netflix and Amazon Prime are the dominant streaming platforms in Europe. Salto, Disney+ and BritBox are also major players. HBO Max will need to catch up (despite having made originals and streaming VOD via HBO Europe for many years).
