Shelby Rogers, the American top seed, was defeated by Emma Raducanu in a 6-2, 6-1 victory that lasted just 66 minutes
Quarter-final of the US Open women's singles - Raducanu and Bencic Date: Wednesday 8 September Time at 17:00 BST Venue, Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. Live radio commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live (BBC Sounds), BBC Sport website, app. Live text commentary and in-depth coverage via the app and website
Emma Raducanu, a British teenager, says that her incredible run to the US Open quarterfinals was "surreal". However she feels confident and in control as she chases for a spot in the semis.
Raducanu will face Belinda Bencic (11th seed in Switzerland), who won the Olympic title last week.
The 18-year old said, "I didn’t expect to be here at any time."
"I feel confident in my game, and I'm learning new things every match."
At 17:00 BST, the pair will meet at Arthur Ashe Stadium. BBC Radio 5 Live will broadcast commentary of the match.
Raducanu, who exploded onto the professional scene at Wimbledon with a run to 16 at Wimbledon, has now achieved this feat in New York in a most remarkable fashion.
Flushing Meadows has been a success for the Kent teenager, who lost just 15 games to his opponent and dominated a number of more experienced players.
This is her first overseas Grand Slam. She also qualified for the major after qualifying with the All England Club wildcard.
Raducanu stated, "The best thing that I'm doing, is taking each day, not getting ahead of me at all, looking after the things I can control, which I believe is working very well."
New York's Raducanu: This is how Raducanu made history. Raducanu is the youngest British tennis player to reach the quarterfinals of the US Open in more than 60 years. The Kent teenager is now the first woman to reach at least fourth round in her first Grand Slam tournaments since Jennifer Capriati, 1990. Raducanu is the third qualifier to make it to the quarter-finals in New York. Her 15 games are the lowest total of any player to drop in the first four rounds since Serena Williams 2013.
Raducanu was ranked 361st mid-June. He had not played competitively for 15 months since the outbreak of coronavirus, which decimated the development tours under the WTA Tour.
After completing her A-level exams, she received an A* in maths as well as an A in economics. She arrived at Wimbledon after having only played one senior tour-level match.
The teenager could soon rise to the top 100 in the world and even reach the top 50, becoming the number one British woman's ranking - surpassing Johanna Konta or Heather Watson - if Bencic beats her.
"Bencic is a veteran on the tour. Raducanu, currently ranked 150th, said that she is in great shape after winning Olympic gold.
"I feel good about my game and confident about the number of matches I have played. Each match feels like a building block.
It will be a very difficult match. "I know that if I want to have a chance, I will have to play some really great tennis."
Navratilova & Wade were impressed by her ability to look almost like the final product.
Raducanu's technical execution as well as her ability to withstand increased scrutiny have earned her plaudits from many of this game's greatest players, including Virginia Wade (18-time Grand Slam singles champion) and Martina Navratilova (18-time Grand Slam singles champion). Wade is the last British woman to win a major championship.
Both women believe Raducanu is a talent that could win Grand Slam titles in her future, provided she doesn't get injured. However, they are wary of tipping her to open an account at Flushing Meadows this Saturday.
"Her shot selection was 99.9% perfect - her tennis IQ and mental IQ are really high," Navratilova stated to BBC Sport.
She is almost a finished product, even though she is just starting.
She said that there are still big hitters who can win the title. She has the potential to win. She will. Most likely not.
"She's one eight, but I believe she has less than one-in-eight chances because I think the other players have better skills than she at her best."
Wade (centre), watched Raducanu's fourth-round match in the US Open against Shelby Rogers
Wade, who won the US Open 1968, Australian Open 1972, and Wimbledon 1977, believes Raducanu has all of the qualities necessary to succeed in the future.
Wade sat on the sidelines of Raducanu's match with Shelby Rogers at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The younger Briton addressed the 76-year old and called her an "inspiration" in the post-match interview.
Wade said that Emma is "exciting, exuberant, and a wonderful person" to BBC Sport.
"Her serve is excellent, she moves so well, and her groundstrokes were great. She has never missed a box.
Raducanu impressed Bencic, but she hopes her experience will help her.
Bencic, 24, was also a teenager prodigy. He reached the top 100 in the world at 17 years old and then exploded onto the Grand Slam scene by reaching the quarter-finals of Flushing Meadows 2014.
Bencic stated that Raducanu is a rising talent and an incredible talent. Although I wasn't able to see how she played, I did notice that she was very athletic and she moves well. She also has great results.
Bencic, who was coached by Martina Hingis’ mother, was often compared with Hingis, a five-time Grand Slam champion who mentored and trained her younger compatriot.
Bencic was 18 when she reached seventh place in the world rankings. However, Bencic suffered wrist and back injuries.
After a long recovery, the Swiss right-hander won the Tokyo title last month.
Bencic says these successful experiences have been a boon for New York this week.
"I feel like you can always learn from any of these situations. She said that she learned a lot about how to manage the quarter-finals and semi-finals matches.
"I feel that the Olympics has helped me tremendously in this. I also played in big matches there and know how it feels to be deep in a tournament or important tournament.
