OWINGS MILLS (Md. A source informed ESPN's Adam Schefter that the Baltimore Ravens added Le'Veon Bell, a three-time Pro Bowl running back, to their practice team Tuesday to assist their injured backfield.

According to a source, Bell, 29 years old, will be promoted to the 53-man roster soon.

Bell's addition comes after Justice Hill, the Ravens' third-string running back, suffered an Achilles injury. Baltimore had already lost J.K. Dobbins, their starting running back, in the preseason finale when he tore his left ACL.

Bell, who was a Baltimore workout on Monday, will add experience and pass-catching abilities to starter Gus Edwards, and backup Ty'Son Williams.

The Ravens had the opportunity to sign Bell in 2019 but decided to add Mark Ingram. Ingram was a Baltimore native who played for two seasons before being released in January.

Bell, who gained over 1,000 yards running in his first three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers hasn't been as active since 2018. Bell rushed for 328 yards and scored two touchdowns last season with the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs.

A source claimed that the Ravens may also sign a young runningback who can assist on special teams.

Bell isn’t the only former Pro Bowl player who has been signed to the Ravens’ practice squad. Baltimore signed wide receiver Dez Bryant last season to its practice team before promoting him onto the 53-man roster.
