Twitter is testing big ol’ full-width photos and videos – TechCrunch

Twitter's latest test brings edge-to–edge tweets to its iOS app. This is a way to make Twitter's experience more immersive.
Full-width videos and images are available to track the direction that the company is interested in. Twitter launched larger images and improved cropping controls earlier in the year for its two mobile apps. This made Twitter a more friendly platform for visual artists and photographers.

Twitter tested larger photos and better previews first in March, before rolling them out to the general public two months later. This is a short time frame that we can revisit to see if the product sticks.

The current test shows that tweets now fill the entire frame from left-to-right, instead of being offset by a large margin to the left. These changes resulted in larger images and videos, which look better in the feed. The design is also cleaner and more modern and doesn't unnecessarily push tweets to users' right.

Twitter stated that the feature was being tested to encourage users to engage in conversations with photos and videos rather than text-only discussions. Although the outcome looks good to us, it is likely that some users will hate-tweet about the change in Twitter's design for at least a day before forgetting about the changes.
