WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Hide Your 'Last Seen' Status From Specific Contacts

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will allow users to change the visibility of their "Last Sighted" status on a contact by contact basis. This is a new feature that WhatsApp is developing.

Regular WhatsApp users will be familiar with the "Last Seen” status of a contact. It sits at the top of the conversation thread and informs you when the contact was last active.

You can currently disable your "Last Seen” status to prevent other contacts from seeing when you last online. However, the settings are limited to "Everyone", "My Contacts" and "Nobody" and it's impossible to make exceptions for individual contact.

Based on the options WABetaInfo discovered in a beta version WhatsApp, this could change. The Privacy settings now include the option "My contacts except ..."" which allows you to select certain contacts so they don't know when you last used the messaging network.

It's important to note that you can't see the last seen status of certain contacts if you disable it.

WhatsApp's new "My Contacts Other Than ..."" option can also be seen in privacy settings for users' profile pictures and "About". This indicates WhatsApp's intent to provide more detailed privacy settings.

It's not clear when the new options will be available, but they were discovered on iOS. The Android version will follow.
