The historic Chicago mob boss Al Capone's home is being demolished. Although the original listing was for $15 million, it was bought this summer by Miami Beach, Florida for $10.75million.

According to AP News, Capone, the notorious gangster known by the name "Scarface", bought the house for $40,000 in 1928. He later died from a heart attack there in 1947. Elle Decor reported that he spent $200,000 more to add a seven-foot high wall, searchlights and a gatehouse.

Capone and his gang are believed to have plotted the St. Valentine's Day massacre which left seven other gang members dead.

Todd Glaser, a developer, is one of the new owners. He stated that the house has flooding damage and standing water underneath it. The AP reported the Miami Herald.

Glaser said to Miami Herald that the house was "a piece of crap." It's a disgrace for Miami Beach.

According to AP, Glaser and Nelson Gonzalez plan to transform the nine-bedroom mansion in to an eight-bedroom home that includes eight bathrooms, a jacuzzi and a sauna. Glaser denied that there is any possibility that the mansion could be considered historic by the city of Miami Beach.

In recent years, other Capone memorabilia have been on the market. In 2020, his bulletproof 1928 Cadillac sedan was on sale for $1 million.

His surviving daughters will auction off nearly 175 Capone's belongings in October. Witherell's Auction House will host the auction, which is called "A Century of Notoriety: Al Capone's Estate".
