Nathan Patterson was close to scoring his first goal for Scotland
After Nathan Patterson's goal against Moldova, which was his first start in Scotland, Steve Clarke called Nathan Patterson "a big player" for the team.
Stephen O'Donnell was chosen over the 19-year old after they both failed Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Denmark due to Covid-19 protocols.
After a Patterson shot was parried, Lyndon Dykes scored in the 14th minute.
Clarke, head coach, stated that Clarke was not surprised by the outcome.
He's a great player when you see him play for Rangers. Nathan played an excellent game, I believe."
Clarke stated that it was unfair for others to suggest Patterson, who is yet to be a regular starter with Scottish champions Rangers', brought something to right-back that was lacking previously.
He said, however, that he had good energy and almost scored his first goal for his country in his first international start. But Dykesy was in the right spot to get it over the line.
He gives you energy up and down, good quality, and is a good passer of the ball. Although he did tire a bit during the second half, he displayed maturity and remained in his spot. He is a good defender and can move forward.
"A major player for us moving forward and a huge player for us now."
Clarke praised Billy Gilmour, who missed an opportunity to score his first Scotland goal in the fifth appearance. However, the Chelsea midfielder is currently on loan to Norwich City.
The head coach said, "Good player." He did tire a bit in the second period, but it was vital to get Billy back on the ball. He sets the pace for us. He doesn't make us do anything, he makes them play.
"Two young, but not forgetting the older ones. Grant Hanley, at the back, solid rock and Jack Hendry were very good tonight."
