Bryce Young shines with four TDs in Bama’s big win (1.54).
Bryce Young was Alabama's first quarterback, setting a record for passing yards and touchdowns in his debut as a starter in Saturday’s 44-13 victory over Miami.
Young, a sophomore, threw 344 yards and four touchdowns. Young completed 27 of 38 passes without interceptions.
Young described Alabama's record books as a "blessing," saying that it was a blessing. "This is not something I take lightly. It's been home to many great players. It's really a testimony to my teammates as well as the coaching staff. "The line did an incredible job."
Young's touchdown pass to Jameson Williams, 94 yards long, tied for second in Alabama history. Nick Saban, Coach of Young's first start, said that he felt Young did well.
Saban stated, "He did really really well." He's intelligent. People look at the stats, but he redirects protection and plays like a veteran out here.
Saban gave credit to Young's preparation for his calm and command of offense against Miami.
He said, "He took the defense's information and directed the offense in positive ways."
It wasn't all bad news for Alabama. Saban stated that Chris Allen, a linebacker, suffered a serious foot injury. He could be out for the season. Allen was the SEC's leader in tackles for losses last season, with 13 and earned All-SEC second team honors.
Saban stated, "It was a luxury for him and Will [Anderson] to be outside backers." Drew [Sanders] is our confidence. ... Some of the younger men will have an opportunity."
Alabama's defense performed well against Miami. They held the Hurricanes to less than 300 yards and forced three turnovers. Cameron Latu, an ex-linebacker who was only able to see limited action at tight end last year, led the team's touchdown receptions with two.
No. No. 1 Alabama will host Mercer Saturday.
