Sony will now offer a free upgrade to Horizon Forbidden West from PS4 to PS5. This decision follows criticism from many after Sony announced that there would not be an upgrade path for Horizon Forbidden west PS4 players, despite a promise of a free upgrade to PS5.
Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, admitted that it was clear that the pre-order kickoff offerings were not up to the mark. Forbidden West was unable to launch in the timeframe we originally planned, but we stand by our offer. Players who buy Horizon Forbidden West for PlayStation 4 can upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version free of charge.
Sony originally intended to make Horizon Forbidden West PS4 users purchase the $199.99 Collectors edition, $79.99 Digital Deluxe edition or the $259.99 Regalla Edition to gain access to the PS4/PS5 versions of Forbidden West.
Sony has also committed to offering a $10 digital upgrade option, for both physical and digital versions of PlayStation exclusive cross-gen titles. This means that the next God of War, Gran Turismo 7 and other Sony first party cross-gen titles will offer a $10 digital upgrade option to PS4 gamers who wish to switch to the PS5 version.
