Bette Midler recommends 'all women refuse to have sex with men' in protest of Texas abortion law

Bette Midler, actress, called for women to protest Texas’ new abortion law by refusing sex.

On Thursday, "Hocus Pocus' star Holly Hunter took to Twitter to voice her disapproval at the ban and to attack political leaders.

"I propose that all women refrain from having sex with men, until Congress guarantees them the right to do so."

After Texas Governor Greg Abbot signed the law, it went into effect September 1. Greg Abbot signed SB 8 in May. The law was blocked by abortion clinics across the state, who called upon the Supreme Court to stop it from taking effect. They claimed that the law would have a negative impact on "at least 85 percent" of Texas' abortion patients and force them to close their clinics.

The Supreme Court did not address an emergency injunction request submitted by Texas abortion providers. This resulted in the law moving forward.

Once a fetal beat is detected, the law prohibits abortion. This usually occurs around six weeks. Critics of the law have argued against it, with Planned Parenthood pointing out that most women don’t know they’re pregnant until six weeks. 85-90% Texasans who get abortions are six weeks or more into their pregnancy.

Some companies have taken a stand against anti-abortion organizations since the law was implemented. GoDaddy announced it had shut down a website that allowed users to ratify Texans seeking an abortion.

Uber and Luft offered to pay legal fees for drivers who were sued under the new law. This law allows anyone who transports women to have an abortion after six weeks gestation to be sued.

Online bots and Shrek porn have been used by people to spam the Texas Right to Life tip line, where anonymous tips can be submitted.
