Emma Raducanu, a British teenager, defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo from Spain to set up a possible match at the US Open last-16 with Ashleigh Barty, top seed.

Raducanu, 18 years old, won 6-0-6-1 against Sorribes Tormo, world number 41. Her overseas Grand Slam debut continued in New York with an incredible win.

Raducanu's highest-ranked opponent is Sorribes Tormo.

If Shelby Rogers beats Shelby Rogers on Saturday, Barty will be her opponent on Monday.

Raducanu's breakout performance at Flushing Meadows has matched his stunning run to Wimbledon last 16 as wildcard after he burst onto the Grand Slam scene.

Raducanu won in just one hour and nine minutes.

"I am happy that I kept and remained consistent."

It was hard to believe that the teenager won, defeating an opponent who had reached a career high ranking by winning 29 tour matches this season.

Sorribes Tormo was unable to deal with Raducanu's precision and power. The Briton dominated 23 winners and served well throughout.

She won the title with another thunderous forehand win, before being praised by a New York crowd who seem to be aware that they are witnessing a star in making.

Raducanu said, "I had to hit through and hit the corners"; 16 unforced mistakes were made.

"If you trade with her, you are second best." I traded against her and she won and I scored more wins than I made mistakes.

Raducanu's star continues its rise

Raducanu is a favorite attraction for US Open fans who are outside the courts.

Raducanu was a name that few people outside of British tennis knew three months ago. She was then ranked 361 worldwide.

After her incredible run at Wimbledon, she was a household name in the UK. She is now drawing plenty of attention from the New York crowd. Many of them wanted autographs and selfies after she beat Sorribes Toromo.

Victory also signifies that the Kent teenager is close to becoming one of the top 100 in the world.

Raducanu was able to qualify for her first major last Wednesday and has not been affected by the enormity of playing in an overseas Grand Slam.

She has never dropped a set in three of her main-draw matches or qualifying matches.

"It was an unbelievable performance by such a young player. Laura Robson, former British number one, stated that she has nothing to lose on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra.

"We always referred to this opponent as a difficult opponent. Sorribes Tormo is a top player who has won many matches and can really put you in trouble.

"But she wasn't in it. Emma hit Emma off the court and she didn't get the chance to play her own game.

Raducanu quickly established her authority in the first stages and broke Sorribes Tormo’s serve at the third attempt.

It was one-way traffic from then on as Briton won 29 out of 42 points in the first set.

Tim Henman, former British number one, called Raducanu’s first-set performance a "ball-striking clinic".

She kept pressing in the second set and broke serve at every opportunity to take a 2-0 lead.

Sorribes Tormo is looking shell-shocked, as she trails 3-0 at the changeover.

Raducanu was determined to not let go as she pursued a second set of love. She maintained her intensity while the Spaniard tried to score.

After fighting off a match point, Sorribes Tormo held serve for 5-1. However, it was not enough to delay the inevitable. Raducanu kept her cool and won a narrow victory.

Robson said, "The level was ridiculous."

"While many young players are able to hit the ball hard, it is not possible to be consistent and to be able to support yourself."
