The US plans to take in 50,000 Afghans fleeing the Taliban and give up to $2,275 each in aid

Every evacuee could be eligible for up to $2275 to cover food, housing, and other necessities such as school.

According to Alejandro Mayorkas, Homeland Security Secretary, the United States expects to accept at least 50,000 Afghans fleeing Taliban rule.

Bloomberg reported that each refugee could receive up to $2275 from the federal government in order to help with resettlement.

The Taliban overtook Afghanistan just days before President Joe Biden's August 31 deadline for withdrawing all US troops from Afghanistan. This culminated in a total takeover in mid-August. Biden stated in a press conference that the Taliban would not be able to take over the country and took control of it just days before.

The situation quickly became a crisis when the Taliban began to encroach on Kabul's capital. Photographs and videos show Afghans packing their belongings into cargo planes and trying to flee the country. Some footage shows Afghans falling from moving aircrafts at Kabul airport.

The Biden administration has tried desperately to evacuate Americans from Afghanistan since the takeover.

Axios reported Wednesday that more than 23,000 Afghans had arrived in the US since evacuations began from Kabul. Former Delaware Governor was appointed by the Biden administration. Jack Markell will oversee Afghan resettlement in America.

The State Department has provided funds for Afghan resettlement in America. Bloomberg was told by a department official that each evacuee could be eligible for up to $2275 to help with food, housing, and other necessities such as enrolling children in school.

Mayorkas stated to reporters that Friday's "our commitment is an enduring one." This is not a matter of the next few weeks. We won't stop until we achieve the ultimate goal.

Afghans arriving in Afghanistan will have up until a year to apply to for a permanent visa. Some companies have taken steps to help Afghans flee Afghanistan. Airbnb provided temporary housing for over 20,000 Afghans who were displaced by the earthquake.
