Transportation Sec. Chasten and Pete Buttigieg, the husband of Chasten, announced Saturday that they were now parents to two children.

"Chasten, and I are so grateful for all the support since we shared the news that our children were becoming parents," Buttigieg wrote Saturday in an Instagram caption. "We are thrilled to welcome Penelope Rose & Joseph August Buttigieg into our family."

In an August 17 tweet to Instagram and Twitter, the transportation secretary stated that he and his wife had become parents.

He said, "Chasten and I have wanted to start a family for a long time," "We are thrilled to announce that we have become parents!" We are still in the process of becoming parents, but we are grateful for all the support and love that was shown to us. We are eager to share more information soon.

They met through the dating app Hinge in 2015. They were married in June 2018.

According to The Washington Post they had been trying to adopt a child for over a year. The couple almost adopted a baby from a mother in labor, but she changed her mind and decided to give her baby up for adoption.

Chasten said that it was a "really strange cycle of anger, frustration, and hope" in a July interview with the Post. It's exciting to think that it's finally happening, but then it disappears.
