Oscar de la Hoya, former six-weight world champion, has pulled out of his comeback bout against Vitor Belfort. He was hospitalized with Covid-19.

The former UFC champion in Los Angeles was scheduled to face the 48-year-old on September 11, 13 years after his retirement.

To confirm the news, he posted a video from hospital on Friday.

"What are my chances of getting Covid?" He said that he'd been taking good care of himself and that this really, really kicked his ass."

De la Hoya stated that he had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 prior to contracting the virus.

American fighter Manny Pacquiao lost to him in 2008 and he announced his return in March 2021. The fight against Belfort would have marked his first fight since that loss.

Hall of Fame boxer, John McGregor, thanked his fans for their support during his comeback. He stated that he expected to be back in the ring "before year is over".
