Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss's coach, has been positive for COVID-19. He will not be coaching Monday's season opening against Louisville.

Kiffin stated in a statement, that he had created a breakthrough COVID-19 case.

"I am thankful to have been vaccinated, and I feel only mild symptoms. Kiffin stated that despite my hesitations about getting tested, it was worth the effort. "I am proud of the program's dedication to vaccination. There are no additional cases to report and team members are not expected to miss the game at this time."

Ole Miss stated that it is still not certain who will be the Chick-fil A Kickoff Game's head coach Monday.

Kiffin stated earlier this month that Ole Miss's players, coaches, and staff had a 100% vaccination rate. In an interview on ESPN's College GameDay, Kiffin highlighted this fact. He also noted that many players -- including the starting quarterback Matt Corral - could have been forced to leave against Louisville if they weren't vaccinated.

He said that it was difficult to tell the players about his positive test, as he had been suffering from symptoms since Thursday.

After going 5-5 in 2020, the 46-year-old coach will be starting his second season as Rebels coach.
