Welcome to Daily Crunch, September 3, 2021. Today's newsletter will be a little different from the usual, as TechCrunch is most likely to have the day off.
Let's chat about early-stage startups. TechCrunch spent a lot of time this week documenting a variety of startups presented at the Y Combinators marathon demo. Our notes covered all presentations on day one and two. In case you don't want the full download or prefer to skim the highlights, we also pulled our favorite presentations in two batches.
This is not all. We also looked into the trends and used Twitter Spaces to discuss what we saw. Y Combinator is a single accelerator. However, because of its large cohort, we pay more attention to the trends its startups reveal.
Let's put that behind us and let's take a second to highlight some amazing stuff from newer TechCrunch journalists:
Disrupt is finally here. Make sure you get a ticket. They are much cheaper now that they are virtual, despite having the best content ever. Were excited!
Let's get some sleep and enjoy the long weekend here in the United States. It has been a busy week, both in the startup-focused world and globally. I'll be on vacation for the week, but I will still leave the Daily Crunch in Greg Kumparak's capable hands. Alex
To drive smarter startup growth, use cohort analysis
Startups that want to understand customer behavior better can use cohort analysis. However, many companies in the early stages of their development let this go.
Most startups group users into buckets. However, a robust cohort analysis uncovers trends that young companies can capitalize on.
Hire a senior marketer or consultant immediately to begin this important work. Jonathan Metrick, chief development officer at Sagard & Portage Ventures offers a detailed example of the value of this type analysis.
Metrick will be hosting a Twitter Spaces chat on Tuesday, September 7th at 3:00 p.m. PDT/6:00 p.m. ET if you have any questions. Follow @TechCrunch Twitter for more details and reminders.
