According to Ira Winderman, Sun Sentinel, the Miami Heat exercised their team option in Tyler Herro's guard contract for 2022-23.
Spotrac reports that Herro will be paid a salary of just under $5.7 million for 2022-23.
The Heat selected Herro, 21 years old, as the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft. After the 2022-23 season, Herro is eligible to be a restricted free agent.
After being an offensive contributor in both of his previous two seasons with the Heat, the 6'5" guard is now ready to enter his third NBA season.
Herro was a rookie in 2019-20 and appeared in 55 regular season games. He made only eight starts. Herro averaged 13.5 points and 4.1 assists. He also made 2.1 three-pointers and shot 42.8 percent from behind the arc.
Herro was truly a star during the playoffs, when the Heat reached the NBA Finals and lost to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Herro scored 16.0 points in 21 playoff games. He also had 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
Herro then followed that up with a productive 2020-21 year in which he played 54 games and made 15 starts. He had career highs of 15.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. He averaged 2.0 three-pointers per match, shot 43.9 percent from floor and 36.0% from deep.
This offseason, the Heat had some roster changes. They brought in P.J. and point guard Kyle Lowry. Tucker was parted ways with Goran Dragic and Kendrick Nunn.
Herro will be seeing a bump in minutes, and maybe even more often, with Nunn and Dragic out of the picture.
Herro could get a substantial raise if he continues his upward trajectory over the next two seasons. He will be a restricted-free agent in 2023.
