Dental drills. This dummy was created as part of an experiment to see how viruses like SARS-CoV-2 could be spread during dental surgery. Researchers at the University of Leeds in the UK used simulated saliva and an uninfected virus to map the spread of aerosols on surfaces and in the air during different types of drills. Aerosol spray was almost eliminated by replacing high-speed drills, which are the most common among UK dentists, with slower electric drills. Researchers believe this could reduce the risk of transmitting coronavirus to dentists and make it easier for them to provide safe treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
