FLORHAM PARK (N.J.) -- Jamison Crowder, the wide receiver for the New York Jets, tested positive for COVID-19. This, according to a source, could jeopardize his status for the season opener against Carolina Panthers.
Crowder's status in terms of vaccination is not known. This will likely impact his availability. League protocols require that players who have not been vaccinated sit for at least 10 days. After two negative tests within 24 hours, a fully vaccinated player can return to the field.
Although it is not known when Crowder tested positive, he was not spotted at practice this week. Robert Saleh, Crowder's coach, said that Crowder was dealing with a minor injury to his groin and is currently considered day-today.
The Jets think it's an isolated incident.
Crowder, rookie Elijah Moore and Corey Davis are among the projected starting receivers. They could also use Moore in the slot without Crowder, with Keelan Cole and Denzel Mims moving to the outside.
Crowder played 16 snaps and threw one pass for 4 yards in the preseason. Crowder took a pay cut during the offseason. His base salary was reduced from $10 million to $5million -- his final year on his contract. Crowder has 137 receptions for 1,532 yards and 12 touchdowns in his two seasons with the Jets.
The positive test was first reported by the NFL Network.
